Congratulations to some REAL Bicyclists out there!
I want to take a moment and CONGRATULATE some absolute REAL Bicyclists out there, (A lot of them) my very good bicycling Friends! While a certain person stayed under the WARM covers; this dynamic group, went out in the 50’s temperatures this morning and rolled on down the highway! Way to go you all! One day, I hope to achieve THAT Coveted status!!!
Scumbag Thieves never take a break! :-(
WELL, heading into the new year, we all need to be extra aware that thieves never take a break or time off, as we see in the following story from bikeportland.org. Pedal Bike Tours cargo trailer stolen from northeast Portland street. Folks you gotta LOCK EVERYTHING up these days! Don’t even think about turning your back away for a second. A lot of these scumbags have NOTHING to lose! Clearly one of my New Years Resolutions is to continue to be vigilant and aware at all times of where I am, my surroundings and also to always remain with my bike or make sure there’s someone watching out for it, when riding!

When Charitable Events become TOO Costly to participate in… :-(
Weekend before last I was riding and kept thinking there was something or some place I was suppose to be at. Upon seeing large groups of bicyclists on A1A / Fort Lauderdale Beach, I finally remembered the event I was suppose to be participating in, the Kinds In Distress Inlet Challenge! BUT… I then got advised by a fellow (Good Friend) cyclist, that I would have had to shell out $245.00 to participate in the event! Needless to say, my wallet is still in tack and I’m not really sad about missing the endeavor; though a worthy one! Now don’t get me wrong, I realize participants are motivated to go out and get donations from friends to help raise $$$ for the cause; but some of us, are just NOT GOOD at asking for donations; especially in rough financial times we are in. I’d really like to see some of these events geared towards the singular cyclist, with a modest donation option. The event fee would still cover the cost of the event operation and the supplies needed for the break areas along the route. But instead of requiring a LARGE minimum fee to be raised, why not make it the event fee + ($50 to $100 dollars) affordable for more cyclists, to be able to participate in and the end result would still be, $$$ raised for a worthy cause!

OMG! EZ actually DISSING a bent??? Say it AIN’T SO EZ!!! :-G
Yikes! Has December 2012 already come upon us? How could we ever read in print of EZ being negative towards a bent? OK OK, relax, it’s NOT as bad as you may think! I recently received an email from a long time bent rider that had previously stated he would be a metal frame cycling rider forever; only to cave in and acquire one of those plastic… carbon fiber bents, the bent industry has so steadily been moving over to. “Well EZ, I have learned my lesson and have parted with my carbon fiber high racer.” He goes on to foretell of how really high maintenance and profound phobia he has had to endure on a thoroughbred bent, built purely for speed and performance. The OMG, I just flatted and laid my CF bike down on the pavement and OMG, I hope I have not cracked the frame anywhere kind of sickly feeling. My friend apparently is not alone in this; as I continue to see numerous CF bikes up for sale all the time on the various bike for sale sites. Some with only a few months of ownership with them. Needless to say, some of my upbringing has come in very handy for me, in that I have always been schooled in the fact that metal will be with you a lot longer than plastic! I purchased my beloved Titanium Aero back in 2003 and the little beastie is still going strong, 9 years later! And hopefully my next acquisition for a low racer type of bike will be a Titanium one as well!
