HPRA ready to roll!!!

WELL the GOOD news is that the Florida HPRA recumbent racing event is happening this Saturday and Sunday at Brian Piccolo Park in Cooper City! Obviously this is something I had previously posted and here’s the link, I also previously posted that tells you more about this exciting event! BUT… the less than good news is I’m going to miss this extraordinary show case of REAL Recumbent Cyclists, most likely for both days. :-( The reason is basically I’m in the midst of doing the MOTHER of all Health checkups and I’m been advised not to exert myself or even be out in the sun too much as I’m prepping for certain upcoming medical tests. (Hummm, I’m feeling that CAGED tiger syndrome again…) Not to WORRY all, as this is a long time promise / goal, I have been meaning to do for a very long time. If / when I get that clean bill of health, I am going to jump WHOLE HEARTEDLY back into my recumbent cycling, doing events every weekend and maybe with a few new additions to my stable. CF Aero 2.0, My secret V/Wind project???????? Anyway, I want to wish everyone a GREAT race time and anyone around these Florida parts, should make it a point to go check out all the different kinds of bents and FAST bents folks that will be on hand! I look forward to seeing photos and the results!!!!! :-) I likewise will be taking a short pause from posting until Monday; so go out and have a GREAT weekend!!! :-)

Have no fear DRESS protector is here! :-)

I don’t recently remember seeing any females or males… riding a bike in a dress; BUT I have to assume there still are a few out there. From the Bikerumor website comes this unique product that keeps your dress from getting caught up in your rear wheel.

After encountering some Ft. Lauderdale Street Meter holes… :-/

Before I finally went to some Clydesdale Aero Spokes on my Beloved Aero, I use to have bike rims (Kinda…) looking like this after a ride along A1A and Ft, Lauderdale Beach. I continue to be amazed as to how many of these lovely street annoyances there really are in the bike lane between Ft. Lauderdale Beach and Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach… :-@

Favorite Memories of your Sebring Experience, EZ?

Hello EZ Biker, as I compose this. my husband and me are in route to see the 12/24 Hours Of Sebring via bicycling! You have posted a lot about this event; so I’m wondering, do  you have any significant special memories, from the Sebring Event you were in? Signed Monica and Eric.

OHHHHH Monica, I SO WISH I was on the road, heading to Sebring with you all! If you have followed my blog, then you know I have already posted stories about my Sebring Experience. BUT YES, I do have some wonderful memories of this event; which continues to entice me to come back and be part of it. Now for a few CHOICE memories! I remember arriving and seeing other cyclists already in the parking lot talking and meeting about the event. Registration went very smooth and the people in Sebring are some of the NICEST you will ever meet. Sebring basically pulls out all the stops, for this bicycle event, just like they do for your major sports car, GRAND AM races. I remember someone pointing out some alleged Lance Armstrong training team members, that followed the lead guy (Who was not Lance) in single file, matching his footsteps and following the lead guy like an army of ants in single file. The night before the event, I prepared my trusty steed, which was my Bacchetta Agio (Nick named the Predator)  and attempted to get some sleep. Moring broke and I walked my bike from the room and got my first BLAST of 28 degree POLER Cold, that had rolled in to Sebring. WT…! C’mon lets jump back in bed! BUT NO, I was there and I had trained for this and was not going to WUSS out. The staging before the start of the event, is perhaps the BEST memory of this event for me. There I was, with about a couple hundred of other NUT Cases, riding bikes in 28 degree weather. BUT there was electricity (Static…? ;-) in the air! I was among (Not nut cases) but a unique breed of cyclists that do these kind of lengthy rides through out the year! I felt like one with them. We started rolling at 6 AM and took 3 laps around the Sebring track and then headed out into Sebring it’s self for the first 100 miles. I was basically last; but I didn’t care; BECAUSE I was participating in a unique event! The roads of Sebring are SO PEACEFUL and vehicle operators so courteous to you; I’d LOVE to live in Sebring for that alone. I remember heading back to the Sebring track (to do laps around the surrounding neighborhood of Sebring for the next 12 hours)  and hit a 30+ mph headwind, that had me rolling at 5 mph at times, just trying to keep from being blown off my bike. Doing a loop around the neighborhood was fun, especially when you got close to the track parking lot and the crowds cheering you on. At 6 PM, those that would be doing the next 12 hours on the track; got directed to the track, and time to get your lights on. Sebring has no night lighting, so you better have a good light are you are at the mercy of rear blinking lights they have in the turns. Ohhh, and I did run over a few of those PUPPIES, ACIDENTLY of course!!! I remember taking it easy in the back turns of the track and them just HAMMERING all I could in front of the pits and cheering people. I remember being told, get off and back on your bike as soon as possible; don’t goof off; only to be PHYSICALLY Shaking on my bike, from the inner sweat that I was not riding into 32 degree temps! My main concern was that I would fall asleep and not finish; but 16 hours into the event, I finally succumbed to the now 35 degree temps, that were beginning to fall. I remember a fellow recumbent cyclist (I believe on a Strada) asking if I was finish doing laps; as he was wanting to quit to; but he wanted to make sure he had done more laps then me. (If I was not so &^%$#(*& COLD, I would have purposely gotten back on my bike and kept going! I got given a sleeping back and laid on the concrete, trying to get myself warm, when I heard voices saying, there was rain in the area and moving toward the track. 10 minutes later it poured. As the event wound down, the awards ceremony was close at hand. Humph! So what, I didn’t win anything; BUT I did! 1st. place in my age bracket! OK, so I was the only one in my bracket… I still got a medal! I was TIRED and a little setback that I hadn’t done the complete 24 hours, BUT I was equally amazed that I had managed to do 16 hours on a bike! SO YES, I’ll be up tomorrow morning doing my short little 30 mile ride; BUT my thoughts will be  WISHING I WAS IN SEBRING!!!

Looking for a a certain kind of bike tire?

You know from time to time, I like to search for a possible BETTER tires for my Aero and my Tailwind. Cyclists are 'unaware of the risks from pollution' BLAH BLAH BLAH… :-/

Cyclists are 'unaware of the risks from pollution' By Amanda Dryer… is a thread I happened onto at the BROL forum. I have been bicycling in this pollution pit for 50+ years and so far, my respiratory checks (That I basically do on a yearly, health check up) continue to come back negative. Ohhh yea this so-called informative story tells of studies about this, that; basically , more BLAH BLAH BLAH. Give me some solid numbers, facts figures, actual in depth studies, medical association articles done on all types of cyclists for a number of years and I might actually take some interest in reading your article. Otherwise this is just another unfounded, unproven needless fear mongering BLAH BLAH BLAH story by someone who probably hasn’t even sat on a bicycle before… :-P

Ghost Bike… Symbolizing our fellow fallen bicyclists… :-(

Hello EZ Biker, I have seen these ghost bikes and I’m aware of what they symbolize. I’m wondering if there’s any video or other information out there, that explains this in more detail. Signed Rebecca.

Hello Rebecca, yes I have sadly seen these profound symbols that represents a fallen cyclists, in numerous places. Here is a link (You will have to endure a brief commercial first though…) to a really informative video, that offers details on what goes into creating these symbolisms of cyclists that have been sadly taken away from us.

Ladies & Gentlemen, START your pedaling!

WELL it’s almost THAT time again for one of my MOST Favorite events, 24 Hours Of Sebring! Besides my 1 time participation (Which I hope to change in the near future) I have posted numerous posts about this ultra event. Here’s me in my 2007 Sebring outfit with 1st Place finish in my class! OK, I was the only one in my class… :-P Just do a search at my blog with the wording “Sebring”. And NO… :-( I’m sadly going to have to pass on this years event AGAIN, as I’m about to undergo numerous medical tests for that LONG SOUGHT AFTER certified clean bill of health, that will LAUNCH me back into full time cycling, hopefully in a few weeks! :-) Have a Great time to all the participants, regardless as to what kind of bike you ride! :-)

There oughta BE A LAW… :-P

Admittedly there are a VERY few things I tend to get annoyed over, BUT… one that does tend to tweak me is forum posts that were created months, maybe years ago, that someone invariably brings back to LIFE! There are a few of these death warmed over posts at BROL. C’mon NOW,  there oughta be a LAW to have the LOCK of RIP placed onto them after they have enjoyed their short 15 minutes of fame… :-P Here’s a few of the resurrected posts… The first one I actually started!

Bicyclist ticketed & JAILED for riding bike on road...

Be wary of Actionbent!

OT – My Super Bowl enjoyment! :-P

Here’s my plea, make it be, Super Bowl Commercials is what entertains me!!! :-P Well another Super Bowl has arrived and 2 teams will be competing for the title. YAWN… BUT what I’m REALLY gearing up for, IS THE COMMERCIALS! WOOO HOO! NOW that’s entertainment I’m talking about! Lately there have been so many LAME commercials, I’m really looking forward to some content with some FUN and imagination in it! One of my early favorites is the Volkswagen Star Wars "The Force"! However I congratulate whatever Football (Yawn) team wins today as well... :-P

POC FADES from Florida and relocating to Tennessee…. :-(

From the BROL post: POC Move - Bad for Florida, Good for Tennessee. I’m am incline to believe their relocation could make Tennessee a potential HOTBED for recumbents. Still it’s SAD to see any recumbent company departing; BUT I sincerely wish them all the best and success!!! :-)
