Recumbent biker SNOWED in! :-O

recumbent snow

WOW! Lots of SNOW already in Scotland? Just found this out at the BROL at AbrasiveScotsman thread: No more riding for me any time soon Well I guess he will have more time to post at the forum for the time being… :-) BUT SERIOUSLY AbrasiveScotsman, hang in there and I’m sure warm winds will prevail soon! (By the way, this is not a photo representing the thread) :-)

Hey EZ, What’s going on?

zwani.com myspace graphic comments

Hello EZ, me and a lot of my friends have followed your blog for a long time. We really enjoy your positive and comical outlooks on bicycling and of course recumbents. BUT a few of your recent posts, especially the recent one… “Breaking News! EZ Biker cancels participation in all Bike events for 2010... :-(“ has some of us CONCERNED about you. Is everything OK? Signed Brenda, Eric, Donna & gang.

Thanks for your email Brenda, Eric, Donna & gang and everyone else that has sent concerned emails… LOTS of concerned emails. And NO there’s honestly nothing catastrophic going on in my life, pertaining to my somewhat fade from the active bike event scene. BUT there are some worrisome things going on in the employment side and past experiences have me activating so-called circuit breakers, when certain signs (You know how I always WATCH for THOSE signs) pop up out of no where. And once again, I’m having some computer issues (Can’t wait to DUMP Vista!) which is an everyday adventure to see if my computer will successfully boot up this time… :-/ I’m also very close to finally (Again) paying off my few credit cards balances and being able to actually put $$$ away in savings! (Woo hoo) I’d still like to move onto my 2nd Tailwind (Thunder wind 2) project and even a Carbon Aero 2.0 project is in the wings; BUT for now, I’m just planning on pushing those endeavors back for a while and wait and see. I’d like to just get through this 2010 year and then plan (Hopefully) for a more positive attitude and active cycling season for next year. SO ONCE AGAIN, THANKS TO ALL for those concerned emails and NOT to worry; everything is doing fine! :-)

OT - Let the contest begin!!!

OH YES, EZ Biker Friends, it’s almost time for that EPIC Clash of the shopping Titians verses the mere mortal shoppers out there! I do have a bike outing invite… BUT… I’m going to seriously debate on weather I want to be out and about on THIS day that’s clearly suited for all you Road SHOPPING Warrior types!!! :-P :-P :-P

OT – OHHHH HE… YEA!!!! What a PLAY!

OK, still another OT post, but this is one of THOSE, you gotta LOVE type of videos. Have to wonder if any college or pro team will find the bal… to try something like this. Here’s the YouTube link. :-P

OT - What a bunch of absolute IDIOTS!

PLEASE enlighten me as to where you all got the information that terrorism no longer exists in this world and that you can just gracefully waltz onto an airplane at your leisure again… You IDIOTS should be THANKFUL that YOUR Flight will be A LOT safer and you may arrive alive to enjoy Thanksgiving, unlike what happen to your fellow 9/11 air travelers… Perhaps the media should start airing 911 footage again to remind certain “FORGETFUL” idiots what happens, when you let your guard down!!!

Test road a 700cc Bike! J. Chapman's Giro and…!

OK, the pictured bike was not Johns, that I test rode; but it comes really close to it. WOW! What an interesting ride. First 700cc wheel bike I have ridden, since my DF days, thousands of years earlier… :-P WOW # 2, is the only thing that comes to mind, when reliving my short doing 8’s in the parking lot next to my LBS. (Local Bike Shop) I kind of felt I was sitting rather HIGH in the saddle of the bike and the turns felt like a swooping sensation. Clearly a different ride sensation, than my usually 650 / 26 inch wheel rides. I also got to try my friend's new (DROOL) 700cc Carbon Fiber Aero out there; which I refused to take for any kind of test ride, out of fear of falling and scratching a true work of art. (Did sit on it though) BUT back to that test ride of a 700cc wheel bike… Why would I even be test riding a 700cc bike???

Breaking News! Day 6 Comfort Bicycles scooped up by AeroSpoke!!! :-O

I just got this from BROL , who got it from Recumbent Journal, about a Bicycle rim maker Aero Spoke has scooped up a bike manufacturing company, in that of Day 6 Comfort Bicycle Company. While these bikes are not a full blown recumbent design; they are designed on the crank forward philosophy (A semi-recumbent position) like what Rans Bikes produces. BUT this still has some very POSITIVE spin (Yes pun intended… ;-) potential in that you now at least have a rather industry significant company (Aero Spoke) that’s at least dipping it’s financial toe into an alternative bicycle design program. Durable hassle free bomb proof low maintenance wheels surely should add appeal to the already enticing “Comfort” Bicycle philosophy. If the elder masses (Which these bikes seem to be designed for) embrace the concept; perhaps they will find interest in an even more reclined positioned recumbent. HUMMM, there’s definitely a disturbance in the DF empire these days… :-)

This occurrence… is NOT rocket science…

While prowling the Bacchetta forum I came upon this interesting thread: UMCA is a mess, which has Larry Graham resigning his position as president of the organization. I’ve met Larry at some of our HPV race events here in South Florida and he’s a Great Guy and runs an Excellent race event in that of the HPV races, held through out the year and places all over the country. He’s also a no nonsense kind of guy and has that, let’s get done what needs to get done attitude.

Now I’m merely offering my opinion here. So one wonders what would make Larry resign from a challenge in something he’s clearly devoted to, in that of ultra-marathon bicycling. Politics you say? Ha! I have to wonder how he lasted for even a short time, with all those die hard ANIL Retentive HARD CORE Diamond Frame (Upright road bike) fanatics that are the main staple of that organization. Mind you, I’m not KNOCKING (Or disrespecting) this organization; as they have been bent friendly in allowing bents into their events… something that might not continue, as of this happenstance… :-( BUT clearly one wonders if behind the scene bent negative… or… Bent HATERS, (OK, I said it) and YES there are THOSE out there; didn’t get caught up in the mix of things. It would not surprise me, if this organization finds new life $$$ support from the DF (Diamond Frame) Empire, should they get a leader at the helm that kicks bents to the curb and only allows upright bicycles to participate in the organizations events. Alas, it’s an OLD Technology 800 lb gray gorilla that continues to weld it’s influence in the bicycle world for continued existence there… :-/

A1A Will be BUSY again… This weekend! :-)

BUT instead of mass crowds of joggers taking over the roads, it will be bicyclists this November 19 thru 21 weekend.

Quote: “The Miami Dolphins today announced the Dolphins Cycling Challenge (DCC), a two-day, 170-mile trans-Florida charity cycling event to benefit Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami. This major community initiative, which will be held this inaugural year on November 19-21, is a collaborative effort between the Miami Dolphins Foundation and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.” Here’s the link for more information about this inspirational event.

Humm, A cool way to ride! :-P

I wonder if they have ever tried this with a recumbent bike? Now I would even consider riding more in the daytime and maybe longer miles, without sweating, in this fashion! :-P

Driver sues family of bike accident victim, HE KILLED!

I have to tell you, there are TRULLY some PATHETIC animals on this planet, that pose as human beings. From the BROL thread: Driver sues family of bike accident victim for lack of helmet use. Quote:”HARTFORD — A driver who is serving a manslaughter sentence for striking and killing a 14-year-old boy is suing the victim’s parents, blaming them for their son’s death because they allowed him to ride his bike in the street without a helmet.” Quote: “Prosecutors say Weaving was recklessly passing another car at about 83 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone when his car hit Matthew Kenney”. And this is a LOWLIFE SCUMBAG that Quote: “Has a history of drunken driving convictions…” I’d truly like to voice MORE here, but why give this LOW LIFE piece of CRA… anymore notoriety. Here’s the link to this SAD and PATHETIC story… :-/

HOT… Off the press!!!

From the BROL forum: Bent’s make the New York Times! Brol poster RMatsos posted this rather interesting and enlightening thread, on a entrepreneur, working out of his apartment, spreading the word about Bents, in New York City. Here’s the link to the story! Keep the Faith my fellow Recumbent Brother!

OK EZ Biker Friends, I have to break my pledge not to do a post until 11/15/2010. BUT I have to BOOK MARK this date for future reference! Back on Friday March 26th, 2010 I posted this photo and story about a MEGA 100 mile marathon that was going to be engulfing Ft. Lauderdale Beach. WELL, it did happen, but it was only for an elite few marathoners and resulted in lovely egg on my face. WELL (#2) the above photo and happenstance DID in fact happen and what a total NIGHTMARE encounter it was! (For anyone except a jogger) Fort Lauderdale 13.1 Marathon is an event, I’ll make sure I keep a watch out for in the future. And THOSE SIGNS, I’ve harped about, watching out for; happened right in front of my face. I hit the road at 4:35 AM on my trusty Tailwind (To do a shorter ride, to avoid the marathon) and I immediately encountered a large fence, blocking off my Los Olas River walk route. That put me on the street where all the bars are and are just closing at 4:30 and lots of drunk and spazed out people are wandering all over, trying to figure out, how to get home. So for the rest of the ride to the beach, I enjoyed numerous cars buzzing past me (Some rather close) and then it was beach time. Thousands of street cones all over the place, NUMEROUS people already all over and event infrastructure everywhere and stretching beyond the beach heading North towards Oakland Park Blvd. (Hummm, I don’t don’t have a good feeling about this) I decided to cut this ride really short and turn around at Oakland park and get the heck off the road. BEST DECISION I HAVE HAVE EVER MADE CONCERING BAILING ON A BIKE RIDE! MORE people were now gathering on the beach and traffic growing even worse and it’s not even 5 AM yet. Finally I get past the beach (Thinking the worse was over…) and headed to 17th street causeway. (Oh GAWD, those street cones are even stretching out here and over the bridge) Upon cresting the bridge, it clearly turned into a OHHH SHI…! with the bike lane blocked off at the downside of the bridge and putting me into 1 lane of traffic with TONS of vehicles already in the lane. Welcome to the BIKE RIDE FROM HELL… I opted to get off my bike and head across the street, thinking that might be a little more calm. NOT! TONS of people (Joggers) filled the sidewalks and were heading for the event. Both sides of 17th Street (That’s 3 lanes each side) were now CLOGGED with traffic and more people growing by the minute! I’m hoofing it with my bike, getting all kinds of chirpy hellos and funny remarks. (Oh, GOD, PLEASE get me outa here)  I finally got to some back streets and FINALLY made my way home. Thank You GOD! SO YES, I will from now on, WATCH for this MOTHER OF ALL EVENTS TO AVOID in the future!!! :-)

OK, I’m still PI… BUT I can’t forget Veterans day!

OK, I’m still not over the GOOFY NCAA, BUT I can put my hissy fit on hold long enough to post and WISH all my Veterans and veteran Friends, a WONDER Veterans Day! And one again, Vet day is EVERY DAY, in my opinion! :-)

OT - Boise State continues to get SCREWED!

I really try and keep my OT topics to a minimum here. BUT the latest BS that’s going on in college football 2010, has basically PIS… me off! Now admittedly I have never been to Boise State University, much less even Boise Idaho; BUT it’s the principle here! I have to tell you; I have witnessed a lot of discrimination in my life, BUT the NCAA TAKES THE CAKE THIS YEAR! Once again another BIG name college has been able to jump over a little no name college (Boise State) to be ranked the number one college football team. And now they have been BUMPED down to 4th ranked! GOD forbid, if a college that's rarely in the standings (Although Boise has been in the top 5 for a second season running) is right up close to the top and should be rightfully moved into the # 1 spot, as it continues to be undefeated. BUT then again, it's obvious the NCAA clearly favors only those brand name, BIG SHOT colleges and to Hell, with the rest of you LITTLE wanna Be's. And mind you, it’s not just college, BUT it’s all the kids, supporters, and the team, that’s done an unbelievable job, that are getting TOTALY SCREWED! I’m so PIS…, I’m not posting again until next Monday.

Someone needs to do a REAL investigation / audit into the NCAA's DISCRIMINATION policies with colleges involved in the BCS championship! BUT in the meantime, they get the EZ Biker YOU SUCK award!

Breaking News! EZ Biker cancels participation in all Bike events for 2010... :-(

no more

Well EZ Biker Friends, $$$ is really the main reason why I'm opting out on any more events, at least for this year. Biking events are now costing $40 / $50 and this is $$$ I can be paying down bills or even saving, when needed. There has also been some… talk about more downsizing at my work place, including in my department. SO, that’s an added reason to circle my financial wagons for the time being. So for now, I’m going to do my early morning weekend rides and be happy. :-)

South Broward Wheelers Annual Cycling Event, Sunday November 7, Loses Century Ride… :-(

One of South Florida’s oldest and finest Bicycling organization's South Broward Wheelers 26th annual Century event, has been CHANGED to SBW Adopt a Bike Ride. BUT technically that 26 should probably be changed and basically start off with a new cycling event title, (1st. Annual SBW Adopt a Bike Ride event) due to one noticeable missing tidbit. The 100 mile event. Now there will only a 32 & 62 mile ride. Admittedly I’m not much a fan of 100 mile ride; only due to the TRAFFIC that gets BAD and usually the Sun and Heat that beat down on you after awhile. BUT it is noteworthy that more and more annual bike events are not offering a 100 mile event. Never the less, this is a really GREAT event and one I am (Again) planning on doing; BUT promising to NOT hang with anyone this time. :-P I’ll probably be the one that gets dropped anyway… ;-P Here’s the link for more information about this event. :-)

Recumbent low riders website!

While browsing the web today I came upon a pretty neat website titled lowride.info that pretty much showcases an absolutely BEAUTIFUL recumbent produced by an Italian bicycling manufacturer, titled Slyway. Really nice site with lots of “DROOL” photos of HOT bikes!

Best way to buy a used bike online?

Hello EZ Biker, Love your site and visit it often. I'm in the market for a bike (Maybe a recumbent) and am wondering if you could offer some insight on the best (Safest) way to purchase a used bike on line. Signed Sandra

Hello Sandra, Thanks for your email. I'm actually trolling for another bike on line, as I post this. The way I approached this, is to have the seller consider bringing their bike to their favorite local bike shop and have them do the packing and shipping. I in turn will contact the bike shop and purchase the bike using my charge card. Admittedly, this might result in a few extra $$$ to be spent; (Bike shop has to get their cut) BUT at least is does offer you some recourse, (AKA the charge card company) in case you never receive your order. I honestly always use a credit card for purchases, when shopping on the Internet. :-)

THIS… Is an Enjoyable MUST Read!!!

I first saw this at the BROL Forum and did a Google and it’s all over the charts! Here’s Bike Snobs interpretation of the many different bicycle tribes roaming this planet. The is a Enjoyable MUST READ! Here’s the link.
