While browsing through the BROL forum I came upon a very informative if not a real EYE OPENING subject concerning sunscreen products. WOW! I just checked the brand I've used for many years and well... it apparently is NOT too good! :-( So before you get out into the sun for any activities, you might want to check out this site!!!

The "DF" Empire gets 2 back... :-(

I'm sure a lot of you remember Alan who created a WONDERFUL BLOG in that of the Recumbent Blog. Continuous spectacular photos and great stories, dealing with recumbency. Then on May 17, 2008, he ended his recumbent blog postings to move on / over to more upright (DF-Diamond Frame) bike subject matter in that of his new blog ecovelo. Yes it would appear that DIAMOND VADER has used the DF force and drawn Alan back into THE... EMPIRE... ;-) And it appears that assimilation back into THE... EMPIRE will be complete, with a post at his new site stating 2 recumbents for sale. Which are the last one's he and his family had purchased. SO Alan I hope you don't mind the FRIENDLY... jab ;-) here and I likewise hope your endeavors in the... DF bicycle empire are Warm, Friendly and always Positive! And YES, I'm sure myself and many others will still continue to visit your new site to enjoy those Great photos and Very Informative "Bicycle" stories!!! :-) :-) :-)
UPDATE-7-26-08 - I received a very NICE email from Alan today and I'm happy to report, the rebel recumbent movement has not entirely lost Alan and Family to THE... DF... EMPIRE! They still have their recumbent tandem!!!!!! :-)

Price Of Gas Brings Out "NEW" Bicyclists

This topic posted at BROL by Redbent. Clearly this is a double edge sword... MORE cyclists back on the road, which is GOOD for the environment and the persons themselves, health wise, BUT BAD as now there's an increase of bike / vehicular incidents! The high price of fuel has FINALLY persuaded a lot of people to look at and give bicycling another serious look see for commuting and other transportation errand needs. BUT now People need to realize that cycling these days is not the same as it was years past. You now have to compete for space with a society that clearly in very UNHAPPY with the fuel costs and likewise feels that only vehicles have the real right to be on roads. :-( SO to any of you all that are rediscovering cycling again, PLEASE be careful out there and you might even want to consider reading up on bike safety or enroll in a class that offers such a thing. I did a Google search on cycling safety information and found some great informative reading, that new and even experienced cyclists might want to check out!!!
STAY ALERT & BE SAFE WHEN RIDING!!!

Tour De France - How do you win, place, show or whatever????

Dear EZ Biker, I have been watching the Tour De France and to be honest, I'm quite confused as to how they keep score or know who's ahead, behind or well where they are in the event? Any help here. Mandy
Mandy, Thanks for your email and VERY GOOD Question! My response... I'm just as confused as you!!! ;-) BUT there's a similar question posted at the Bacchetta Forum, that might help "US" figure out all this confusion! ;-) Here's the link.

Hydration! YES! It's important!

Well here we are in the middle of summer and I FINALLY got to go and HAMMER with my usual road bike buddies today and one poor soul forgot to bring water bottles; but decided to try and tuff it out. No big deal, it's a short 30 mile round trip sprint. WRONG! After only about 5 miles into a 25+ mph rate our waterless friend was already feeling the effects and ended up dropping out and going to go get water. SO YES, proper hydration is IMPORTANT! Am I knowledgeable of it? No not really, BUT here's some interesting reading at the Hammer Nutrition website!

OT - Checking the status of a website...

I don't know about others, but during the weekdays I continue to have an issue accessing the Bacchetta Forum from the early morning until the afternoon. I came upon a thread at BROL about "Forum Broken" and saw a pretty interesting website to check if a site is really down or if it's all in your head... ;-) www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

NOW HERE'S how you get recumbency rolling! Start them out young! :-)

Admittedly the recumbent bicycle world is mostly made up of OLD Geezers like myself... ;-) However I've found a few sites that offer some real enthusiastic hope that some of our younger cyclists counterparts are being exposed to recumbents and are actually being able to acquire recumbents that fit them! The photo here is courtesy of BROL's 6th Annual Recumbent Retreat. A great write up and includes a story about the pictured cyclist and also a link to NUMEROUS bents built for kids! Ooooooh, to be young again with a recumbent!!! :-) :-) :-)

EZ Biker's "Want to make some $$$" idea!!!

Yea Yea, I know I'm still the guy that set out to make $$$ and then FLOPPED and as of yet has had time to FINALLY REVEAL (Which I have so often promised to do so...) my Failed $$$ ventures... And yet now I have the NERVE to even suggest an idea on how to bring in some serious $$$ on an endeavor? OK, just indulge me here... ;-) There are NUMEROUS recumbent bicycles that feature the seat like you see here. And as you can see, I've had to revert to the old strap the sponge seat to the seat frame trick... Now perhaps there's someone that's into sewing or actually is a seamstress, that maybe is into designing and fabricating covers for other items. I believe the sky is the limit here, on offering a seat cover for these kinds of seats. Perhaps different colors, logos or even photos can now be employed into various fabrics or just PLAIN SIMPLE Black spandex covers. (Design a seat cover dealing with bees (Yellow & Black) and you could have 1000's of potential immediate customers. One outfit that offers Bee socks has made a KILLING on orders. (Wish they offered "Bee colored cycling pants...)
Now mind you, there's a site already advertising such covers, but some of their website does not function, specifically the "Contact us section!" So anyone out there looking for a potential $$$ making venture, with really not a lot of immediate $ outlay (Especially if you're already into the sewing business) here's something you should consider checking into. You could probaby do this from home, using a FREE Blog site to get your business out there!
