How to NOT get hit by cars, when bicycling... :-)

I happen to see an interesting site that TomR posted at the Bacchetta Forum. It shows numerous instances of vehicle and bicycle encounters (I've been in every scene shown...) and how to avoid or get out of the situation. Very informative for bicycle safe riding!!!!

OH..... MY... GOD!!!! This really is a LOUNGE CHAIR Recumbent!!!! :-0

While trolling at the rbent forum, I came upon THIS rather interesting post by FlyingLaZboy, Rolling Lawn Chair. This is an actual production bike folks! Here's their website to read about it.

Is there such a thing as a Trail bike Recumbent?

Dear EZ Biker, you have a really nice site. I'm wondering if there is any kind of recumbent that might be suitable for trail riding? I remember the BikeE-RX at BROL, but I doubt if there are any of those around. Any thoughts? Signed, Arnold
Arnold, Thanks for your nice email and YES, there are some potential trial riding recumbents out there! Pictured is a youtube video of Richard Ehrlich, going through the woods. Here is the link to the BROL forum post, that offers a little more info about the subject and still another link that shows what appears to be the same bike, except for the larger front wheel, in the vedio one. Admittedly, I'm not really informed about such bikes, but you or other interested persons, might want to post that question at BROL forums. I'm sure there's more out there!

Find the LOWEST Gas Prices in your area at!

OK, this is another REAL STRRRRRRETCH for staying on my main theme of recumbents and bicycling; BUT I think this can be helpful to all, who need to find the best LOWEST gas prices. I heard about this site, watching CNN-Business last night. is a really helpful site, that helps you locate the lowest prices of gas in your specific area. Just put in your zip code and stations with the cheapest gas in your area, comes up.

Any photos and information on commuter bents?

Dear EZ Biker, I'm seriously thinking of doing the commute to work thing, with the cost of gas continuing to rise. A recumbent seems to be the really comfortable way to go, but I don't see a lot of information or even photos of them anywhere. I'd sure like to see some and maybe get some ideas, on what I should be looking for. Signed Michelle
Michelle, Thanks for the nice email and interesting question. I have actually gone to THE SOURCE (Bent Rider On Line - BROL) to see what some of my fellow benters have to show and tell. There's been some good responses and you can see them here!
UPDATE: 5-28-08 Commuter bent makes front page in Texas newspaper!!!

Anything still made in the USA???

Dear EZ Biker, this is a little off topic, but it seems 99.9% of everything is made overseas! I’m wondering just what’s possible left in the world, that’s actually made in the USA. Signed Donna
Donna Thanks for your email and actually when I received your email, I was sent a couple of websites that actually cater to those, that want to find things that are still made here in the USA. Check out these links: Link
Link There’s also an article about this at the following MSNBC link. I've also set these links up on my sidebar.

Rant post removed...

To my EZ Biker Guests and Friends, I want to humbly apologize for my recent RANT post. People have the right to state whatever they want, as well as run their businesses and reflections of it, anyway they want to. After some subsequent reflection, after doing the post, I realize, such a post is not why I started this blog. Therefore, from here on, I’ll restrain from letting my personal feelings dictate what I post at my blog. From now on, for those that choose to visit my blog, you will see positive posting, about recumbent Bicycling, along with all forms of Bicycling in general! :-)

Why I won't be participating in the Ride Of Silence this year... :-(

Well EZ Biker Friends, I have to tell you, that I will not be participating in a Ride Of Silence event this year, out of concern for.......... MY SAFETY!!!!! This past weekend I actually went cycling with a few friends in BROAD Daylight, after 7:00 AM!!!! What I came away with was (Why I will now stay with my early morning cycling) the streets are PURELY MORE MEAN than I use to think! Motorists are POed about the gas prices and they are (Even more so now) acting out their anger on the road, in their vehicles and towards anything that's on the road with them, other than a gas powered vehicle. GOD forbid you hinder them in anyway! If they have to as much as go around you or slow down because of you, YOU WILL MOST LIKELY HEAR ABOUT IT, WITH HORN BLOWING OR EVEN PEOPLE CURSING / YELLING AT YOU!!!! WOW! What an eye opener!!!!!!

Keep in mind the Ride Of Silence in some places takes up some road, with quite a few cyclists and this could cause possible delays towards ALREADY ANGRY, STRESSED OUT VEHICLE OPERATORS! Will this show of multitudes of cyclists, give vehicle operators a moment of positive or regretful (For fallen cyclists) reflection??? I think NOT! Given how ANGRY motorists are already... I believe this will be counter productive and just make motorists, that much more HATEFUL towards cyclists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-( To anyone who plans to participate in these events, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!!

An annual SOMBER event... :-( - May 21, 2008 * Ride Of Silence... :-(

Usually you tend to look forward to certain events with fun and joyful memories. However there are THOSE annual events like 911, Pearl Harbor and even the bicycling world has their own somber and SAD day of reflection, for cyclists killed on the road. My fellow Blogger and recumbent cyclist friend , Alan at the Recumbentblog has just posted a fine article about "Ghost Bicycles" which is an organization that places bikes painted white at various places, where there has been a fatal cyclist occurrence. The name of the organization is Ghost Bikes Org. Another annual event that is geared to fallen cyclists is called the Ride Of Silence, which will be happening this year on May 21. Cyclists around the world will gather at preplanned events and ride about 20 miles in total silence to remember and reflect on their fellow cyclists, that have fallen. These bikes and this annual event is something I truly wish could fade away, but clearly in this UGLY CRAZY MEAN world, we will sadly have to continue to endure these SAD traditions... :-( :-( :-(
For those in and around Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano, Miramar and other cities in North Broward, you are invited to join in the Boca Raton Bicycle Club, that will be holding a ROS event.
(Ride Of Silence - Fl.) The ride will begin and end at Patch Reef Park, located on Yamato Road (West of Military Trail) in Boca Raton. The ride will be approximately 11 miles in length and will last approximately one hour. For additional information, please contact Barry Hersh at 561-434-3432.

Pearl Izumi endorses Recumbent Cycling!!!

I found this little bit of news and photo at the rbent forum. posted by FlyingLaZboy. OK, not the most prestigious animal, but any kind of endorsement is better than none! ;-)

Dear EZ Biker, I’m really enjoying reading your blog and also the SFRR posts. It seems a lot of people had issues with cramping during the Wachovia, (Originally titled the MS 150) event. Did you have these issues last year and what can be done to hopefully prevent this from happening? Signed Sharon
Sharon Thanks for your email. And NO, I didn't have those issues last year, for a few reasons. I had previously put in numerous miles at 2 hours+ riding time before this event, (Last year) including a daily in-house (20 mile) stationary bicycle regime. For me, it’s basically constant TRAINING although I don’t view it like that; it’s just a fun thing I enjoy doing.
The main things people need to do before, during and after an event like this, is to HYDRATE and make sure you have fuel (Carbohydrates and other nutrients) intake during the event. Even when you are not thirsty, you need to hydrate. And yes, when Mother Nature calls (Hopefully only for # 1) you need to stop and take care of that! Also, for a lot of people, they really need to prepare and TRAIN for a ride like this. A lot of cyclists are what we call, “recreational” and ride at the most 5 and maybe not more than 10 miles, in their cycling average endeavors. Events like what happened this past weekend can be 60, 70 or more miles coming and going! Doing some dedicated training, allows you to get acclimated to the heat, road conditions, traffic conditions and weather conditions. These will all be out there, waiting to confront you.
Should you get cramps, I’d strongly suggest you call it a day and allow to be sagged back in. This can be a life threatening situation, if not cared for properly!

THIS JUST IN... OT * The 1st. Class Postage stamp """FOREVER!"""

OK, a little off topic, but a few recent mail arrivals (Yes, people actually send me snail mail letters) have people adding 1¢ stamps with the stamp you see here. NO NO NO NO!!!! You don't have to do that!!! From the following link, I quote: "A forever stamp is valid for first class postage no matter what the rate. By concept, once purchased, a forever stamp is a perpetual stamp that never expires or declines in value."
ALRIGHT, I just happen to purchase 18 of the beauties this past weekend at the old rate of 41 cents! I now save myself 18¢ Here's another link to the USPS that shows the same stamp and info.
OK, I have to confess here, I sent a bill payment and added a 1¢ stamp to it! Hummmmmm, I I think that qualifies me for one of my own DUUUUH awards!

Allllright, a PLUS for bicycling???

From the BROL Forum, What a Surprise, posted by cheezyridr. Hummm, appearently some people are beginning to get this HINT about alternative transportation. As the headline would seem to say... Gas prices knock bicycle sales, repairs into higher gear

Now if only the recumbent shops out there would put together a nice commute recumbent!!! $$$$$$ To be made here............. HINT HINT $$$$$$

Time Trail "TRIKE"!!! :-0

ALLLLLRIGHT! I scooped this story up from a good friend of mine J. Preston at the Motorola Bike league Group. Here's the Youtube link to check out this SPEED Machine!!!

Does EZ have his new computer yet??? :-)

YO, EZ, have you gotten your new laptop yet??? Signed Carl
Hi Carl, Thanks for your email. In answer to your question…… UMMMM, ERR, well, gulp… ahhhhhhhhh, you see…. Blush…. Face turning embarrassingly red…. NO… :-( I really do have all the specs on what I want, honest! I’m really planning on ordering it soon, Honest… (Yea, just like my promise to reveal my invention failures story… ;-/) I guess the best answer I can give here is... I'm honestly flirting with maybe going to the Mac or Linux platform!!! From all the HORROR stories I've heard about BLISTA, er..... I mean Vista, I'm surely steering clear of that SKUNKY OS! And now today, I hear there are issues with the final XP service pack 3 release! SO YES, I'm taking my sweet time and mooching use off of others computers!
I SUCK……………. ;-)

Storing bikes in SMALL places!

Dear EZ Biker, Help! I have just moved from a nice spacious residence, into a small little apartment! I have a couple of bikes and I don’t know how I’m going to fit them in anywhere! Signed Donna

Donna Thanks for your email. I too have been looking into some sort of bike rack / storage system for my matchbox size apt…. ;-) and I believe I have found a pretty good one and at a decent price. Bike Nashbar has a pretty simple looking pole rack as you can see in the photo here. Here’s the link to check it out. :-)
Please note: I don't have any personal or professional investment or interest in the company I have posted here. :-)

Calling all EZ Biker Friends! Check out the petition posted here! If you agree, PLEASE add your signature to the list!!! :-)

Quoting Josh: (Owner of Atlantic Bicycles) " I hope everyone takes a minute out of their day to sign this e-petition to get Google to put a Bike There option on the Google Maps feature. Just think how cool it would be to be able to plan bike routes from Google maps. All you have to do is click on the link and sign the e-petition."
OK, EZ Biker Friends, please read over the petition and if you agree it's worthwhile, then add your name to the list!!! I have!!! # 32219

You think you have bicycling hazards in your town???

Well my Frans, you ain't seen nothin, until you have done some REAL country road bicycling in TEXAS!!! A fellow recumbent rider Paul, aka FlyingLaZBoy from Rowlett, Texas sent the pictured photo of his recent encounter, with the typical Texas "Pet" that roams around. OK, I added the wise as.. wording... ;-) GEEEZ, Paul, I hope you didn't shoot any Bull, while riding that day... ;-) ;-) ;-)

CONGRATULATIONS TO Mike Brown (Blubent) aiding a fellow cyclist in need at the Zimmerman MS Bike Event!

From the SFRR Yahoo group posting.
The Zimmerman MS Bike Presented by Wachovia, (Originally titled the MS 150) took place this past weekend (May 3 & 4) and there was a fair amount of recumbent cyclists that turned out for this event. I had the HONOR of doing this event last year and it was a lot of FUN! One of my fellow recumbent cyclists, Mike Brown, went the extra mile and assisted a fellow cyclist, who was dehydrated and cramping badly. In Mike's own words: "On Saturday, about a mile past Card Sound Bridge I came across a MS rider leaning on the guard rail rubbing his legs from cramps and asking for help. I pulled a u-ee and stopped to assist. As I was digging in my bag I looked over and there he goes, flipping backwards down the bank and into the mangrove swamp. I dropped my bike went down and helped him out. The water seemed to revive him a bit and a good thing, this guy was BIG, and I am sure it would have been difficult to yank him up by myself. I stopped some bikers for help, called 911 and tried to keep him revived while he went in and out of consciousness. Fire rescue came about 10-15 minutes later and took over from there."
So CONGRATULATIONS Mike! You have earned the EZ Biker Worth A Million Dollars Award!

Update - 5/7/08 - Thanks for the emails about some of the wording being messed up! I think I've corrected the issue! :-)

Another "HEARTBREAKING" Day Of SAD News... :-(

Browsing the BROL forum, I came upon this MOST SHOCKING and SAD news, that Alan has done his last post at his blog, therecumbentblog. :-( Quoting Alan from his site:
"So, it’s official, this is my last post on The Recumbent Blog. At some point, when the new site is ready, I’ll announce the address and ask everyone to update their bookmarks and feeds (or
unsubscribe if the new topic is not of interest). The Recumbent Blog will then go into permanent stasis, archived on the web as a resource for the ‘bent community."
Needless to say, Alan's recumbentblog was and (I believe) will continue to be the MOST Professional designed, informative and entertaining Blog in the Recumbent World. While I respect Alan's reasons, I personally see no harm in deviating from the main theme. I too have done that and even did a recent post about it. (Talk about """OT""" topics... how about my Squirrel moon post...) I ride and favor recumbent bicycles, BUT in reality, I like, enjoy and LOVE all aspects of bicycling, be it Road Bikes, recumbents, trikes, unicycles Mountain bikes or whatever; IT'S Bicycling! Bicycling has been very good to me and I hope I can continue to ride them, for as long as possible! I'd like to think my blog is helpful and even... entertaining at times. If there's "1" goal I hope to achieve from my blog, it's to get as many people back on bikes, regardless as to what type and hopefully will continue and my Friends (Regardless of what bicycle platform they ride or support, will come back to visit often. :-)
To Alan, I say, Thanks for therecumbentblog and I look forward to your new blog endeavor and will proudly post your link at my site, for all to see and enjoy!
Sincerely, EZ Biker :-)

EZ MOONS Voyeur Squirrel! :-0

OK, this may be a STRETCH to bike related, much less than even recumbent related post here. Upon arrival back home I was climbing out of my bike outfit and while looking out the window, THERE IT WAS, a squirrel intently staring at me! Now I'm no prude... but I decided to give this VOYEUR of a squirrel a real show and MOONED the poor thing! It took off and I;m not sure where it went.... Ummmm, so much for a SLOW easy uneventful weekend... ;-) Posted from work :-)

You seem to have MORE Road Bike articles...

...lately there EZ. I thought your site was dedicated to recumbent bicycling. Are you being drawn back to the DF (Diamond Frame) empire there, EZ??? Signed Sheryl
Sheryl, Thanks for your email and..., technically you are kind of correct in your observation there! :-) No not the I'm being drawn back to the DF world, but YES I have posted a number of articles concerning DF bikes, as well as recumbents. The truth of the matter is, I really LOVE and enjoy bicycling PERIOD! Regardless as to WHAT kind of bicycling anyone may own and ride, the fact that it's a BICYCLE, that's basically the kind of world I want to be in and participate in as long as I can! BUT because of your email that points out this observation, I plan on doing some upgrading to my Header and basically make it clear that my blog is about "BICYCLING" DF. Recumbent. Trike and maybe even unicycling!!! ;-) ;-) ;-) If I find a photo or story that I feel is interesting reading, I'll clearly be posting it here to share with my EZ Biker Friends!!! Photo courtesy of link.

YES, there are "FEMALES on PERFORMANCE Recumbents!!!

Hello EZ, I'm Teri and I've been into triathlete events for many years. Recently I've had some serious back issues and am now maybe considering a recumbent bike. I'm not the fastest around, but I do enjoy performance cycling. I see a lot of your low racer types of recumbents out there and am wondering if females ever owned ride those bikes?
Teri Thanks for your email and the answer to your question is (Again) YES! There are numerous females out there that not only ride Low Racers, High racers and various other types of recumbents,, BUT some are actually VERY VERY FAST on those bikes!!! At the BROL forum post your bike thread there's many women posting there with their GO FAST recumbents. One poster that caught my eye was at this link, showing Dragonfly's VK2 in cruise mode!

EZ'S 1st. Official Duuuuuh Award, to a certain Bike... shop... in Peoria, Arizona!

Aaaaaah, another interesting BUT HONESTY a really GOOFY attitude a certain bike shop apparently treats some customers post found at the BROL Forum... This one deals with a certain apparently SNIFFY Diamond frame bikes ONLY customers welcome in their store episode. Mind you, I don't advocate that any bike shop be required to service or cater to recumbent bicycle patrons. Shops are FREE to cater to whom ever they want. BUT, you know, in this particular time, where the almighty $$$ is not doing that well and technically business overall is NOT GOOD and in fact even LACKING more so when talking about bike stores (Hundreds going out of business every year...) clearly this... store rates my goofy mug shot and DUUUUUH award. Recumbents basically use the same tools and parts as road bikes and the same kind of $$$ income can be generated from that bicycle audience. More simply put, to turn down any kind of $$$ paying customer these days, is well DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH! :-/ Posted from work :-)
